The Ghost Frequency

Another week, another band from London playing electro-rock-spiky-punk stuff. Honestly, my eyes glaze over when I hear or hear of another one of these. There are only so many Shoreditch and Camden bars to accommodate this stuff, and I’m not sure if many other people in the outside world are that interested. Anyway, this was my initial response to The Ghost Frequency, but I went as far as to listen to one of their tracks after it was sent to me the other day, and you know what? It’s alright.

I’m not going to praise them too highly, but they do the electro-rock-spiky-punk thing with more spunk and verve than most. And decent tunes too. If you’re going to listen to this kind of thing, you could do a lot worse than check out The Ghost Frequency. They seem to put on a good live show too, if this review by Headphonesex is anything to go by.

This nicely follows on from yesterday’s post on Super Furry Animals – not because of any musical similarities, but just as SFA have long done the whole strange creature thing as part of their artwork (and I’m strangely warming to the new album artwork), so Ghost Frequency have got a thing with comic-book style monsters. Maybe the clue’s in their name.

If you’re in London today, and have time to spare, head down to the new Rough Trade East where they’re playing an instore at 8pm.

The new single Nightmare, is out next Monday. Pre-order from Rough Trade.

Oh, and they have a blog too.

Finally, the video for Nightmare, complete with papier-mâché monsters!
